We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Discovery Sciences department as a lab-based Research Scientist in the Cell Bank team in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Cell Bank team supports AstraZeneca projects globally across the therapeutic areas including, respiratory and inflammation (R&I), cardiovascular and metabolism (CVRM) through provision of quality assured mammalian cells.

As part of a team within the Discovery Sciences organisation, you'll be working within a vibrant scientific environment to support drug discovery. We push scientific advances in small molecules, oligonucleotides as well as other emerging technologies. Always with a view to providing medicines to improve patient care. The Discovery Biology Department of Discovery Sciences is responsible for the generation of novel reagents and assays to support projects in the drug discovery pipeline from target discovery all the way to clinical candidate. What you'll do:
This is a lab-based role to culture, cryopreserve and quality control cells to support projects in all phases of the discovery process. A large part of the work also involves managing cell freezer storage, registration and tracking of cells in databases, and as well as provision of cells to local and global scientists.

Essential in this role:

* BSc/MSc in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or a related field.
* Cell Biology experience.
* Expert knowledge in cell culturing and banking of a wide range of adherent and suspension mammalian cells such as cell lines and primary cells and/or pluripotent stem cells.
* Experienced in culturing cells at plate-, flask- and multi-layer cell stack scale.
* Highly skilled in using cell databases for registration and accurate tracking of cells and human biological samples.

The successful candidate is also a highly engaged scientist who enjoys collaboration and team working, who holds experience of interacting and communicating efficiently across interfaces of functions, fields, culture, and expertise. This goes hand in hand with your problem-solving skills, knowledge of evaluation of complex data and strong delivery focus.

Desirable in this role:

* Knowledge in cell quality control techniques such as mycoplasma testing, STR fingerprinting and sterility testing.
* Experience in working with human biological samples and demonstrable practise in preparing cell lysates and membranes.
* Knowledge in cellular biology techniques used to develop of transient and/or stable cell lines.
* Differentiation and reprogramming of iPSCs.
* Computer literate with experience of using databases, analytical packages and presenting data.
