The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer.
MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, translational, national and international collaborations.
Lab and project description
The Lane lab is located at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet (http://ki.se/en/mtc/startpage) as well as at the very nearby SciLifeLab (https://www.scilifelab. se) and works to identify and characterize novel therapies targeting the tumor suppressor p53 in cancer. We seek to employ a lab manager with experience in handling of various technical and administrative tasks in an academic environment as well as expertise in cell biology and hypoxia to support our continued expansion.
Duties
We are searching for an organized, skilled, and highly motivated Lab Manager who will secure smooth functioning of the lab. Main tasks will include ordering and purchasing lab reagents and preparing procurement of equipment. The lab manager will be responsible for lab safety compliance and management of chemicals as well as for initiating, executing and compiling animal ethical permit applications.
Additionally, the successful candidate will offer technical support to the laboratory including cultivation and adequate storage of cell lines and performing cell-based reporter assays (such as luciferase and fluorescence-based).
Finally, and because of a newly developed line of research in the laboratory, the candidate will be assisting projects in the field of hypoxia and will be training the laboratory staff with hypoxia-related equipment.The Lab Manager should be capable of working independently and be proactive in the implementation of procedural improvements to ensure that the lab runs safely and efficiently. Hence, we are searching for a highly energetic person with a great deal of independence and initiative, with passion for experimentation and great communication skills.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in molecular biology and cell biology
- Extensive experience in cell culturing and hypoxia
- Licenciate degree
- Experience as a Lab Manager or project leader is preferable
Excellent spoken and written English and Swedish.
