ABOUT THE WORKPLACE
Station Linné is a self-governing, independent research station on the Baltic sea island Öland, southeast of the Swedish mainland. The place is particularly well-known for its insect inventory programs and other unique field-based research, of which many have a systematical, taxonomic approach. Station Linné strives to evolve new projects in sustainable development, nature and the environment. In addition, we arrange popular science activities and education in a stimulating, beautiful and highly diverse environment. We have now modernized our labs and started up a MinION lab for which we hereby announce a call for the employment of a lab technician.
WORK TASKS
Prepare and perform DNA extraction and PCR, including optimization, gel electrophoresis, and library preparation. Experience with MinION sequencing preferred. Maintain good record keeping for work performed as well as perform and evaluate troubleshooting, job performance and safety including daily routine work in maintenance of lab cleanliness and order.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Documented experience with hands-on involvement in molecular biology and experience in relevant lab work. Knowledge of (at least basic) database management.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Experience of laboratory procedures, including buffer preparation, DNA extraction, DNA purification, PCR (including optimization), running agarose gels. Maintaining good time-management and organization.
SKILLS PREFERRED
Experience of lab protocols, setting up and running experiments. Experience with library preparation for Illumina sequencing. Experience working with insects.
PERSONALITY
Good work ethic and attention to details; a huge motivation to learn and apply new techniques and methods. You are structured, analytical, meticulous and takes responsibility.
SCOPE OF EMPLOYMENT
Form of employment: Temporary, with option to permanent.
Scope: Full-time or after agreement
