The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.

The Marine Phytoplankton Ecology and Applications group seeks a scientific laboratory technician with a background in marine ecology.

Job description: The position involves the responsibility of the Kalmar Algal Collection (curator) including maintenance and supply of living algal cultures, hand and eye coordination of technical equipment (CHN, HPLC, Flow cytometer) including maintenance and calibration, performing water chemistry and biochemical analysis on plankton and water material, and optimization of methods. Work duties also include the management of large-scale algal production systems in collaboration with the industry, providing demonstrations and writing technical reports. The position involves working on several projects at the same time, working with and providing support for a number of people including trainees and students.

Qualifications: Applicants should have at least a University Bachelor degree in Biology (180 ECTS) with focus on aquatic/marine ecology. The applicant should have experience in specific and practical techniques and be able to solve technical problems. Excellent record-keeping skills, along with skills in statistics and computing, teamwork and attention to details are essential. Documented experience of similar duties is advantageous. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Swedish are essential. B-license for car is required. 

Terms of employment: Permanent employment, 100 %.

Placement location: The position is located in Kalmar.
