Job description
CytaCoat AB was founded with the purpose of developing new and improved anti-microbial coating technologies that can prevent healthcare-associated infections. CytaCoat’s technology has the potential to transform multiple medical device areas and can be adapted for devices used in many different indications, where prevention of bacterial colonization, bio-film formation and infection prevention can have a huge beneficial impact for patients, practitioners and health care costs.

CytaCoat are seeking a hands-on chemist to help our small, expert team conduct experiments and produce samples and materials in our chemistry laboratory and also on our newly commissioned Pilot Plant manufacturing line. This is a highly dynamic role, where you will contribute and assist in both product development /optimizations, Quality Control as well as manufacturing, and scale-up processes.
This role will report to our R&D Director and is based in Solna, on the old Karolinska Hospital site in spacious, dedicated facilities. Here both microbiology evaluation, optimisation of the CytaCoat technology and pilot plant production are performed.



Responsibilities
Conduct hands-on experiments including titrations, formulations, analytical measurements (including wet-chemistry and analytical methods). 
Assist in process of scale-up from lab-recipe to pilot plant production.
Operate manufacturing equipment and monitor manufacturing process in CytaCoat’s Pilot Plant.
Accurately record results from experiment, and present results to senior colleagues.
Carry out new and repeat tasks accurately and following strict methodologies. 
Maintain and operate standard chemistry laboratory equipment.
Keep equipment in a clean and serviceable condition and ensure the safe removal of waste.
Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced and that everything is clearly and correctly labelled.




Qualifications
University degree in Chemistry.
Knowledge and hands-on experience from analytical methods (incl HPLC) would be advantageous.
Previous experience working in a laboratory in a small, entrepreneurial environment is desirable.
Experience working on scaling up processes and procedures from lab to pilot plant scale would be an advantage but is not essential.
An understanding of how R&D supports medical device Quality Management Systems and Regulatory requirements would be advantageous.
Fluency in written and spoken English. We are an international team and English is our primary language.

For this role we are looking for a curious, ambitious and energetic chemist. Your previous experience in specific methods and processes or quality standards are not an absolute necessity, but we believe that proactiveness, willingness to learn and an analytical mind-set are crucial factors to succeed in this role. 
You need to have the ability to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problems. Strong time-management skills, and ability to write technical reports with accuracy and with attention to details is also a must.

CytaCoat AB is a private Swedish company located in the Karolinska Institutet Science Park AB in Solna (Stockholm area). The company was founded by a group of researchers from the Karolinska Institute, one of the foremost medical universities in the world, and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). It was a special purpose vehicle started with a goal to develop a new technology of antibacterial coating for medical devices. It was based on a discovery that our proprietary polymer surface exhibits a clear effect on several of the most problematic pathogenic bacteria that pose problems in healthcare today.
