International Färg has been part of the AkzoNobel Group since 1998 and is a world leader in the field of protective paints. At our facility in Gunnilse outside Gothenburg there is a modern factory where we manufacture protective coatings for bridges, wind turbines, sport arenas and more.
Do you want to help us ensure a high quality of our colors and you also have an interest in chemistry, paint and quality methods? Then you can be our new Lab Engineer!
What will you do?
As a Lab Engineer you will work at Lab & Quality department with the factory and the control group with manufacturing, formulations, daily problem solving and long-term structured improvement work. It is necessary to be communicative and flexible in eventually learning all the existing areas of work in the group in order to be able to work together with colleagues, both on a daily basis and to be able to cover up during holidays and business trips, for example.
Your main work involves:
• You need to learn all the quality controls on all our products and how to identify if the paint does not meet the specified requirements.
• You work with formulations, test instructions and raw materials in the ERP system SAP Saturn.
• You work closely with our production to identify production problems with products and product groups and to find improvements and solutions to these problems.
• You work with QC equipment with test methods and calibration instructions.
• Participates in audits of production, products and lab routines.
• Participates in the laboratory's and the company's improvement work and work with health and safety, quality, 5S and lean manufacturing methodology.
Working hours are basically normal office hours 8.00-16.30, but since production is ongoing in two shifts (06.00-22.40 and some Saturdays) work may need to be carried out outside regular working hours to assist production. You will report to Quality Manager and be located on Akzo Nobel's site in Gunnilse/Angered.
Who are you?
To be successful in the role of Lab Engineer, you need to be analytical, thorough, have a good understanding of the flow of work processes as well as a good communication and collaboration skills. You will be both involved in and lead improvement projects together with colleagues, production staff and staff from other AkzoNobel units in Europe. As a person, you always strive for improvement and you are used to acting as a problem solver. Then you need to be able to both look at the big picture but also act and solve problems in the details. We work a lot with different computer systems, so a good ability to learn and use these is a requirement. If you have previously worked with programming, web layout and communication, that is a plus.
In addition to the above characteristics, we also see that you have the following qualifications:
• Education in chemistry, chemical engineering or similar fields.
• Some kind of experience in chemical-technical manufacturing.
• Knowledge and interest in protective coating paints and/or surface coverage products.
• Fluent English and good knowledge of Swedish, in both speech and writing.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) is a requirement.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Sharepoint and SAP (SAP Saturn) is a merit.
