Laboratory technician

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of 9 divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

Division
The Department of Laboratory of Medicine, located in Campus Flemingsberg, is one of the Karolinska Institutet’s largest departments with 8 research divisions including the Clinical Research Centre (CRC), where the project will be carried out.

350 people are employed at the department, half of which are PhD-students. The Centre provides the facilities needed for cell- and molecular biology research and the possibility to perform research in vivo. EL Andaloussi’s research group works primarily on development of engineered extracellular vesicles, in particular exosomes, as therapeutic delivery vehicles for various biologics. The lab has different on-going projects related to the exosome field with a wide number of close collaborations with labs both within and outside Karolinska Institutet. Most of the projects are focusing on development of engineered exosomes for targeted delivery of protein therapeutics to treat various inflammatory conditions.

Duties and qualifications
The project will focus on developing bioengineered extracellular vesicles aimed for treatment of various conditions. Most of the research will be conducted utilizing molecular biology tolls and cell lines. The first part of the work will involve molecular cloning, transduction of cells and subsequent purification of engineered exosomes harbouring therapeutic proteins or RNA. If the applicant has previous background in the biomedical industry that is a plus. Prospective candidates should be high achievers and be able to work independently with experiments after initial instructions.

The applicants should have a solid background in molecular biology or biotechnology. Practical lab experience is essential, especially in the following areas: cloning, expression and purification of recombinant proteins, protein analysis (Western blot, ELISA and IP), RNA expression analysis (rtPCR, qPCR and ddPCR). It is advantageous if the applicant furthermore has some experience of virus production and subsequent generation of stable cells, flow cytometry, cell culture work, purification and quantification of extracellular vesicles. In addition, excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English is highly desired. We are looking for an energetic and passionate person who fits in, and actively contributes to our team.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in Swedish or English:
