The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as disease ecology.
Work description
The Environmental Science and Engineering Group is an active researching group in the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at Linnaeus University (ESEG). The ESEG is leading and working with many European and local projects concerning wastewater and waste treatment and recycling/recovery of valuables, remediation of oil and trace elements contaminated solid media such as glass, soil and sediments and much more.
Chemical, physical and biological methods and analyses are used through the activities of these projects. The ESEG is searching for a laboratory technician that will take the responsibility of such analyses and field sampling as well as helping in reporting available results. The candidate will be involved in multi-disciplinary research, environmental science, chemistry, statistics, and environmental risk analysis activities.
Qualifications
Requirements: Qualified for the appointment is the one who holds a master degree in aquatic biology, ecology, or environmental science. In addition, the applicant should have experience of molecular techniques, next generation sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, statistical analysis and fieldwork. The applicant should also be proficient in written and spoken English.
Meriting: Documented experience in biology or microbiology laboratory, physicochemical analyses such as COD, BOD, organic and moisture contents, redox and toxicity tests. Furthermore, experiences in programming to MATLAB and GIS are an important part of this position. Finally, having the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group and having a category B driver’s license.

Terms of employment
Employment and scope: Short-term employment. Full time (100%) from July 1 2020 to December 4 2020.
Placement city: Kalmar, Sweden.
