We are looking for a laboratory technician in microbiology for part-time fixed-term position at the Life Science Center, School of Science and Technology.

Background
The project is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Systems Immunology and Microbiology group at the Life Science Center, School of Science and Technology, Örebro university and researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala. The project is on microbially enhanced phytoremediation of PFAS contaminated soils and groundwater. Örebro University contribution to the project is to conduct microbiological analysis of PFAS contaminated soil/groundwater and PFAS uptake in hydroponic plant studies.

Duties and responsibilities
The project focuses on soil microbiota and its effect on PFAS phytoremediation using hydroponics.  The duties will include both field and laboratory work on PFAS contaminated soils and groundwater.  The technician will help set-up and maintain hydroponic plant studies, process samples and collate data. Duties will also involve field sampling of soils and groundwater for microbiome analysis and assisting with bioinformatics and microbiome analysis. Recording, collating and summarizing of data is an expected part of the field and lab work. Other duties will include general lab and equipment maintenance and assistance in other lab/ field studies if needed.

Qualifications
The person we are looking for has a master’s degree in microbiology, biotechnology or related field. They should have good oral and written communication skills in English. Since the laboratory work involves microbiology and molecular biology, basic knowledge and laboratory skills with techniques associated within these fields is necessary. Furthermore, previous experience working or participating in research is considered an advantage.

This is a fixed-term part-time position (100%) for 2,5 months starting by October 15 until December 31, 2022. At Örebro University, salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience (and where appropriate, positions are subject to a trial period).
