We are looking for a Laboratory technician in Chemistry with experience in cell culture for a fixed-term position at the School of Science and Technology.

Background
The position is placed with the Man-Technology-Environment Research Centre (MTM) at the School of Science and Technology. The position is tightly coupled to two ongoing projects, ImprUV and Unpuzzle, funded through both Örebro University’s Food and health strategic initiative, Lantmännen Research Foundation and by a starting grant from the Swedish Research Council. We are aiming at the implementation of novel cell culture protocols within our cell culture facility at MTM to explore biological effects of food-derived compounds, particularly on the assessment of gut microbiota-derived metabolites associated to tryptophan metabolism as well as food-derived oligosaccharides in various cell culture models, including TLR-, AhR- and Dectin-1 reporter cells and on in vitro colonic fermentation models.

Duties and responsibilities
The Laboratory technician is expected to implement standard operational procedures at our cell culture facility including general operational routines as well as specific protocols for analysis of effects of food-derived compounds in reporter cells. The Laboratory technician will also be responsible for managing the procurement of necessary consumables and ensuring efficient execution of analysis procedures within our cell culture facility. We also expect that the Laboratory technician communicate and engage with other users from our research centre, providing operational support in liquid and gas chromatographic analysis, cell culture and in vitro colonic fermentation.

Qualifications
The person we are looking for has previous experience and certified training in cell culture, as well as bachelor’s degree in nutrition, food science or a very closely related field. Very good oral and written communication skills in English is needed. Holding a master’s degree in nutrition, food science or a very closely related field and having practical experience in processing biological samples, particularly plant-derived samples and cells, is an advantage. Previous experience with mass spectrometric hyphenated techniques is also an advantage.

Great importance will be attached to your personal qualities; the ability to work independently and engage with other people in a way that instils confidence; and a good track-record when it comes to cooperation. International experience within other research groups is an advantage.

This is a fixed-term full-time position for 6 months. At Örebro University, salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
