Laboratory technician within aquatic viral ecology

The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. The Marine Phytoplankton Ecology and Applications group seeks a scientific laboratory technician with a background in marine ecology.

Job description
You will work in a research laboratory where the focus is on aquatic phages. You will independently work with methods like plaque assays, DNA extractions, PCR, transcriptomic experiments and concentration of virus communities from aquatic environments. Also bioinformatics analyses of genomic and metagenomic data of phages will be included.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for a person with a university degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology or equivalent. You should have fluent English skills. You should have practical experience of laboratory work regarding cultivation of bacteria and phages, DNA or RNA extraction methods, primer design, PCR, and collecting viral metagenomes. As a person you should be committed, flexible, structured, thorough, and have a genuine interest in research.

Other assesment grounds
Skills in Bioinformatic is an advantage.

Terms of employment
The position is temporary. Full time for four(4) months with the posibility of extension.
The employment is planned to start on January first, 2017.
