The move towards renewable energy sources is forcing an unprecedented transformation of global power systems. Stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (ESS) are projected to play a vital role in supporting this transformation. Northvolt aims to become the leading partner of the ESS industry and set new benchmarks for connectivity, sustainable sourcing, and CO2 footprint.
As a Lead Application Engineer in Northvolt’s ESS Business Area you play a key role in enabling the company’s success in the ESS market. You will be responsible for providing technical expertise to the ESS team and its customers, supporting the development of the ESS Business Area’s long-term strategic product roadmap, and serving as the link to Northvolt’s engineering teams. The role requires leadership skills, deep technical understanding, and the ability to communicate technical solutions to customers and project members.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Identify the customer needs, develop solutions that fulfil the customer needs by liaising with Northvolt System’s Engineering team and Northvolt’s R&D Cell Design teams
Provide stringent and consistent technical expertise to support business development
Develop market requirements for identified business potential incl. product portfolio, cost targets and timelines with key accounts
Develop and maintain customer relations on technical topics through regular and constructive communication
Follow up new business development initiatives, respond to RFQs, and prepare formal project proposals
Lead system design work integrating internal and external products and/or solutions
Develop and maintain technical sales support tools
QA/QC process to ensure products and services meet and exceed consumer expectations
Skills & Requirements
We believe that you have:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics or equivalent
5 years of experience in design of energy storage and/or power grid solutions
Client facing experience from sales, project management, or as a technical consultant
Deep understanding of electrochemical energy storage and battery technology
Start-up and growth company experience, especially from hardware companies, is considered an advantage
Specific Skills/Abilities:
Excellent English written and oral communication skills in both technical and business environments

Full time employment, fixed salary. Job requires travelling, mainly within Europe on a weekly to monthly basis. The role reports to the Director of the ESS Business Area.
