Lead Engineer for Electrical Design and Installation

Arbetsbeskrivning

ESD-31990

Imagine what we could learn if we could build a machine so powerful that it could look deep inside the very materials that the universe is made from. A device that could actually let us see the atoms and molecules that make up the structure of substances. Imagine the new discoveries we could make, the new materials we could develop and how much we could learn about ourselves and our universe.

The European Spallation Source is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

Whilst others have built telescopes that allow us to look into the furthest regions of space, now we will build a device so powerful it will allow us to the study the smallest objects in the finest detail.

Come and build the future of Science with us!

About the role:

The ESS is at an exciting turning point. It is in transition from being a construction site, to being an operating facility. To help us realise our goal of being the most powerful neutron source in the world, we are now in search of a Lead Engineer for Electrical Design and Installation for Machine Protection Systems, within the Protection Systems Group. This is a critical role as you will ensure that Machine Protection Systems are implemented according to their design, and hence contributing strongly to achieving high beam availability for ESS.

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Planning, leading and coordinating the installation of all machine protection systems and related interfaces.
• Ensuring that the installations are compliant with relevant standards and ESS guidelines, and that they meet the requirements of the electrical design.
• Being involved in the development, verification and documentation of the electrical designs of machine protection systems.
• Evaluate whether protection functions, associated integrity levels and reaction times are correctly implemented in the electrical designs of the different machine protection systems.
• Implement requirements for electrical components of machine protection systems in alignment with the ESS availability and reliability goals.
• Continuously evaluating and finding ways to optimise the different processes.

This is a permanent, full-time position located in Lund, Sweden, and we need someone who can start as soon as practically possible.

About you:

The successful candidate has a degree in electrical engineering or similar relevant area.

You have several years of solid experience from electrical engineering and design, installation of complex critical control systems, and machinery equipment/systems. It is an advantage if you have gained this experience from a research facility or similar.

Furthermore, you have experience from using PLM/PDM, CAD & Engineering tools and ePLAN P8 platform. Knowledge of functional safety standards IEC61508 and IEC61511 would be an advantage.

Your experience and knowledge has made you confident in your leadership role and in deciding and initiating action. At the same time, you remain open-minded and positive towards change, better solutions and input from internal and external stakeholders. Collaborating and communicating is something that you enjoy.

Experience from working in an international environment is essential, and you feel comfortable working with people from different backgrounds. Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement, as it is the working language at ESS.

What can we offer?

Aside from the chance to work at truly unique big science project, you can also expect:

• An opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, innovative and stimulating work environment.
• Market competitive compensation that is individual and differentiated according to role, responsibilities, individual skills, abilities and achievements.
• 30 days of annual leave, as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
• Monthly pension contributions on top of your salary.
• Flexible working arrangements and a real work-life balance.

Interested? We sure hope so.
