Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a lead engineer in the to join our passionate team in Västerås.
In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories and specifically the build up of the recycling. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free and resource efficient society.
The lead engineer will be in charge of mechanical pretreatment. As leader of the unit you will have the opportunity to build a competent and dependable team, almost from scracth, capable to scale Northvolt’s operations in Sweden and beyond. You will be in charge of setting up and executing the long term recycling technologies reporting to the Director of Recycling Operations.
The team will primarily support the Revolt business and Hydromet team to create a circular flow of recycled battery materials.
You will be working intimately with the Revolt Hydromet team with Business Development team, Strategy and Pilot plant operations.
In general you have a long experience in the field and have been driving large, innovative and challenging production development projects with high demands on industrialisation and scaling.
Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working with material processing as well as automated processes and robotics.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Developing methodologies for discharging
Developing methodologies for dismantling battery packs
Developing methodologies for mechanical crushing and sorting

Skills & Requirements
Education/Experience
A degree in PhD/MSc
10+ years working experience in mechanical process development
Track record of successul R&D achievements
Successful track record of scaling automated mechanical processes in a fast growing environment ideally in the metal or manufacturing industry
Curious, technically educated and with a strong business background
Must have worked in multi-cultural environment
Experience and interest in manufacturing industry is a plus

Specific Skills/Abilities
Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus
Highly organized and result-driven
An eye for detail
Proactive and goes beyond expectations
Exceptionally good negotiation and problem-solving skills
Has a can do attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit
Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines, excellent time management
Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently
Ability to work in a high profile and often high pressured international environment
