At Volvo Materials Technology in Gothenburg, we are a team of about 30 passionate engineers who enjoy what we do. Our team is built by teamwork and engagement, having fun together and supporting each other in our daily work. Materials Technology is organized within the department Verification, Testing and Materials Technology. We are a global expert function serving Volvo Group and selected external customers in the field of applied materials technology. We offer competence and development resources for product and process development. We have a modern and well-equipped laboratory for material analyses and for testing of materials properties. Our specialists work globally in the whole product lifecycle from early phase development to maintenance. This is what you will do
You will be part of the cast materials team and you will act as technical expert for cast aluminium. You will together with the team be responsible for defining state-of-the art technology and identify future trends within the area of cast materials, as well as driving innovation and generation of intellectual properties. You are supposed to develop and provide trainings in and outside our organization and act as a mentor. To be successful in this role you are a business oriented person who enjoys working cross-functionally and building relationships. Taking own initiatives and driving the assignments forward is natural for you. You will manage and perform material investigation projects, perform failure analyses and write engineering reports with analysis and recommendations for decisions. You are also expected to take part in continuous improvements of the laboratory, such as equipment responsibility and method development.
The position is based in Gothenburg. Travel may be needed occasionally.

Other qualifications are:
M.Sc. or Ph.D. in materials science within the area of metallic materials.
At least 5 years of experience within the area of metallic materials. At least 2 years of experience of work with cast aluminium.
Knowledge within the whole field of cast aluminium technology, in the use of relevant laboratory equipment and development of methods for examination and testing. Experience in determination of failure mechanisms and failure modes.
Experience within development of cast aluminium components. Experience and knowledge about semi-solid casting is an advantage.
Since you will give recommendations and input to component development, manufacturing and technical documentation a background from automotive industry and in mechanical engineering applications is a strong advantage.
English proficiency, both written and spoken.
