The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering is able to award doctorates in the area of industrial product realization. At the department of Computer Science and Informatics research is conducted in the field of computer science and informatics. The newly established Jönköping AI Lab (JAIL) consists of two full professors, three associate professors, assistant professors and affiliated PhD students and laboratory engineers. The main research area is applied artificial intelligence (AI) in collaboration with the surrounding society and industry. The focus is on theory and method from data mining, machine learning and semantic technologies. JAIL is currently the largest research group in the department and is developing and growing stronger.

The department offers education at undergraduate, graduate and research levels. The teaching is conducted through bachelor, master and engineering programmes that span from graphic design to software development and artificial intelligence. The research conducted in the department supports the educational programmes. There are approximately 30 staff at the department and about half of the staff have an earned Ph.D.



POSITION

The Department of Computer Science and Informatics at Jönköping University provides academic programmes in subjects ranging from New Media Design, IT Infrastructure, Software Engineering and Mobile Platforms and also conducts research in associated areas.

We are now looking for a lecturer or assistant professor with a focus on web and mobile development. You need to be able to teach and handle courses in both front-end and back-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, node.js/PHP) as well as mobile development for iOS and/or Android platforms. General knowledge about Content Management Systems is also required.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The employment focuses primarily on education with research opportunities in the main subject area of computer science with a focus on web and mobile development. You will keep yourself updated in your area and the industrial and societal development of relevance for our department and keep our courses contemporary.

As Lecturer you are expected to participate in research projects and strive for continuous competence development.

As Assistant Professor (Senior Lecturer) you are also expected to build and maintain an academic and industrial network, and actively apply for research funding.

To be an active part in the institutional work at the department and at the school will require presence at the workplace on regular basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

You should hold a master’s degree for a position as lecturer or a Ph. D for a position as assistant professor, in a relevant area, or comparable scientific competence, and pedagogical merits according to the https://ju.se/download/18.55eae5ad16dbf214c0c8d82/1587990095242/Regulations for employment of teachers at Jönköping University – Appointment Procedure.pdf.

You should also have documented skills in teaching in English. Ability to teach in Swedish is of advantage, as is industrial experience from the area. Experience from research projects, especially in cooperation with industry, is of advantage.

The requirements include knowledge and real-world implementation skills in:

- HTML5, CSS;
- client-side development, e.g. in JavaScript;
- server-side development, e.g. in Python, PHP, C#, Java, node.js;
- iOS and/or Android development.

It is meritorious if you have;

- skills in interaction design, UX and cognitive sciences;
- implementation skills in graphic design or motion graphics (Illustrator, Sketch, Adobe XD, Adobe After Effects);
- ability to teach in other areas of relevance for our department (e.g. Software Engineering or Embedded systems).

You should be development and quality oriented, responsible, and pedagogically skilled. You must be able to adapt your teaching to students with various cultural and thematic backgrounds. You are a strong team player but still able to work autonomously and independently. It is advantageous if you perform well in an interdisciplinary environment and have strong critical and analytical skills.
