At the School of Education, Culture and Communication our students are studying to be for example preschool teachers, teachers, special needs teachers, communications officers, language consultants, mathematicians and chamber musicians. Here we have the research specialisations of Educational Sciences and Mathematics. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with preschools, schools, banks and companies, municipalities and public authorities in the region.

Position description
At MDH there is a lively environment in mathematics, including teaching and research oriented towards applied areas such as finance and engineering. We now want to further strengthen this direction by recruiting a lecturer in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, specialising in Financial Mathematics and Portfolio Theory. The work assignments comprise:
• teaching in Mathematics on the first- and second-cycle levels within the University’s Financial Mathematics and Engineering Mathematics study programmes, in particular Portfolio Theory,
• strengthening of school’s education environment in Financial Mathematics, including the development of courses and study programmes,
• supervision of degree projects in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, and
• strengthening interdisciplinary and international cooperation at the University.
Qualifications requirements
The qualification requirements for appointment as a Lecturer at Mälardalen University are a Master’s degree or equivalent competence, as well as documented teaching skills. For other information, consult the Appointments Procedure for Mälardalen University.
The applicant should have completed ten weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. A person appointed as Lecturer but lacking training in higher education teaching and learning will be offered in-house training during the first year. The course in higher education teaching and learning at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.
Please include in your application a detailed description of your pedagogical qualifications, for example in the form of teaching experience, course responsibility, level of courses, experience in developing teaching materials, evaluation of teaching carried out, experience in supervising degree projects, pedagogical development projects, as well as a description of basic pedagogical values that shape your teaching activities.
Assessment criteria
In general terms the assessment criteria shall be based on the ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to fulfil the duties well. The same attention shall be paid to the assessment of teaching skills as to the assessment of academic or artistic skills.
Particular importance is attached to the applicant’s merits regarding:
• teaching in Financial Mathematics, in particular Portfolio Theory;
• experience in work asset management in the financial business sector.
The ability to teach in English is a requirement for this post. It is important that the applicant is able and willing to conduct and develop first- and second-cycle education in Financial Mathematics study programmes for students with Mathematics as their main subject with varying study backgrounds and prerequisites.

Merit
Merit is attached to practical experience of implementing theoretical models in analysis of individual securities, the practice of optimally combining them into investment portfolios, and skills in portfolio management. If you are a holder of the CFA exam, it will be considered as an advantage.
Merit is also attached to ongoing active research and documented cooperation with colleagues in other subjects, which have resulted in joint research publications, documented active participation in the construction and development of research and education environment, as well as documented ability to attract external funding for research and education.
Merit is also attached to experience of development and programming of financial models and applications, e.g. in R and/or Python.
