The company:
LKAB is an international and high-tech mining and minerals group that mines and upgrades the unique iron ore of northern Sweden for the global steel market. Sustainability is core to our business and our ambition is to be one of the industry’s most innovative, resource-efficient and responsible companies. The group had sales of about SEK 31 billion in 2019 and employs about 4,300 people in 12 countries. Other group business includes industrial minerals, drilling systems, rail transport, rockwork services and property management.
The Norra Gruva Gruvplanering (Mine planning) section has the task of conducting LKAB's ore exploration and planning for the mining of raw ore in the Kiruna underground mine. NGG houses operations for Geology, Diamond Drilling, Rock Mechanics, Surveying and Mine Planning, which in unison are responsible for the mine's future strategic investments and ongoing mining plans.
NGG’s Geology department consists of a varied team of geologists, ranging from junior geologist to experienced specialists, which all work towards a safe and sustainable mining operation. LKAB is taking on the challenges of the future and as a part of NGG you’ll work with our unique iron ore body, one of the largest coherent bodies in the world. We are currently looking to bolster our workplace with a Structural Geologist.
The opportunity:
As our main Structural Geologist, you’ll hold a key role for our continued geological mapping. Together with NGG’s other operations and your colleagues you’ll continuously map and assess the geological features of the mine. You’ll act as a central hub of collecting information and synchronizing our mapping techniques, the job therefore requires you to be analytical and communicative.
In a long term sense, we believe that you’ll be crucial in integrating geological information with rock mechanical properties for blocks and mine, with special attention to rock tension and seismic situations, into a coherent model. You’ll also hold a key part in keeping it continuously updated and rich for wide usage in our operations.
As a part of our workplace you’ll have mandate and scope for action in an environment of openness and cooperation. You report to your Group Manager and work closely with both internal and external resources such as experts from our prospecting section and the mine’s production based operations.
Your qualifications:
On a personal level you should be responsible and detail-driven with an analytical mind and a sense of precision. You see yourself as a team-player and value your colleagues and associates, with an ability to position yourself as a dependable part of the organisation.
You hold a MSc or a PhD with former experience in structural geology. You are also familiar with standard mine planning software such as Leapfrog.
A driver’s licence is a requirement for this position. You communicate well in both spoken and written English, with any level of Swedish seen as advantageous.
Commitment, Innovation and Responsibility are important keywords for you in your daily work. We at LKAB believe it is important to have an inclusive climate where everyone feels welcome and we look forward to the new thoughts, ideas and perspectives that you bring with you.
What we offer:
Opportunities in a highly technological, international mining and minerals group with grand-scale operations on a global market. As an employee of LKAB you partake in the company’s reward system and other benefits such as educational assistance through our scholarships, the company health plan, dental care package and personal development plans and leisure activities with access to both gym and training facilities, arts groups, mountain cabins and much more. While also participating in the Swedish pensions and welfare system in the unique and wonderful landscape that is Norrbotten.
