Loads and Systems Engineer for Airborne Systems

Arbetsbeskrivning

At Saab, we constantly look ahead and push boundaries for what is considered technically possible. We collaborate with colleagues around the world who all share our challenge – to make the world a safer place.

What you will be part of
Aeronautics, a business area of Saab, offers advanced airborne systems, related subsystems, unmanned aerial systems, aerostructures and services to defence customers and commercial aerospace industries worldwide. Aeronautics is also responsible for development, production, marketing, selling and supporting of the Gripen fighter.
Do you want to contribute to and become part of one of the most advanced and exciting Aerospace and Defence organisations in the world?
The loads section of which you will become part belongs to the Area of Structural Analysis and consists of 15 employees of which 1/3 are women. The section has responsibility for calculation and estimation of loads for the airframe, external stores (weapons), internal systems and sub-systems such as bleed-air system, fuel-system and landing gears. The derived loads will be delivered to our customers in order to perform strength analysis and sometimes tests. Today the section is involved in several interesting and exiting programmes both in the military and the civil segments e.g. Gripen, T-X (a new trainer) and Saab 340/2000 and its AEW derivatives. Many of our development programmes are performed in collaboration with partners or have customers internationally.
Saab's ambition is to be a highly attractive company to work at and it is crucial for our employees to behave ethically and according to existing regulations in all aspects of business, to care for the environment, to set good examples in the way we act towards each other as employees and how we treat our business partners.

Your role
We are looking to extend our team with another loads and systems engineer. As a loads engineer you will be calculating and estimating loads for airborne systems based on data obtained from aerodynamic, structural dynamic and aeroelastic analysis or tests. The scope of the work includes both static and fatigue loads for external and internal applications. The calculated loads are validated through ground and flight tests carried out by the flight test department. As a loads engineer it is not unusual to participate in the tests in order to monitor and evaluate measured data and compare with the result from our models. The work is analytical and requires a high portion of common sense in order to assess input data, factors influencing the analysis and the reliability in the results. The work covers the complete development chain and several phases in the life cycle of our products. This will provide you a broad overview and understanding of the "big picture" concerning the development of an airborne system.
In addition to be working as a loads engineer your main responsibility will be activities related to support, continuous improvement and new development of our program systems. This also includes development and delivery of load models/programs used for health-monitoring of the aircrafts in-service. We are mainly using in-house developed programs and systems based on C++, MATLAB and FORTRAN.
Finally you will also be involved in work related to operational excellence. We are continuously working to improve our processes, methods and tools to be more efficient and to stay competitive in the future. This also includes improving or acquiring competencies within a specific field through participation in courses, seminars, exchange programs etc.
Saab is an international company and because of the ongoing globalisation the amount of collaboration with partners and customers all over the world has increased during the last years. Thus, it is important that you are open to and comfortable in working together with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Your experiences and skills
You are a dedicated person who wants to develop your technical and behavioral competencies together with us in the team. It is desirable that you have a master degree or equivalent within mechanical engineering (or similar) with a genuine interest and knowledge about software development (in particular C++ and Linux). It is an advantage if you have working experience from within the aerospace and defence sector or other relevant areas.
Further it is important that you are collaborative, creative and are good at building relationships and networks. Leadership abilities and international experience is also an advantage. The frequent contact with partners and other engineering disciplines requires excellent skills in the English language both verbally and written.
This position entails working with classified information and requires Swedish citizenship.
