The Project Support and Administration Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden invites applications for a Logistics Officer.
Description of directorate/division
Under the Head of the Supply, Procurement and Logistics Division, you will be responsible for managing ESS logistics operations, developing normative and operational aspects of the logistics function for ESS. This includes developing guidance, planning, coordination, logistics procurement and acting as a key account manager for ESS logistics service providers (LSPs). Special attention will be paid to management and planning of large, complex deliveries and setting up warehousing and information systems. You will coordinate with ESS staff, technical experts, in-kind partners, suppliers, and LSPs. You will manage ESS staff and consultants working in the logistics function.
Description of main responsibilities
- Act as the main focal point for logistics for ESS, including as key account manager for LSPs.
- Ensure an efficient logistics process is in place.
- Develop logistics procedures, forecasts and plans to ensure safe and on-time movement and delivery of goods / materials to ESS and potentially with in-kind partners.
- Logistics procurement and contracts management to ensure best-value-for-money and appropriate delivery of goods / materials.
- Develop warehousing procedures, forecasts and plans to ensure safe and effective storage of goods / materials.
- Oversight and implementation of logistics management information systems (e.g. inventory management, transport management, etc) and/or interfacing with information systems of LSPs.
- Provide proactive support and guidance to the organization and in-kind partners, as required.
- Develop, implement and report on key performance indicators for logistics operations.
- Compliance with internal and external rules and regulations.
- Supervise ESS staff and consultants, as required.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or Logistics. A university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) with substantial related experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
- At least 10 years of experience in logistics management, with at least 5 years of experience in a managerial or coordinating role with focus on developing plans and bringing stakeholders together to define and achieve deliverables.
- Experience working in an international environment, preferably in an international research organization, large-scale project or similar environment, requiring regular collaboration with internal and external clients.
- Experience organizing shipments (sea, land, air), with a particular focus on large, complex or sensitive shipments.
- Experience conducting logistics procurement, managing contracts and working with LSPs.
- Experience developing and monitoring logistics forecasts.
- Experience managing logistics information systems and interfacing with LSPs.
- Experience managing staff and resources.

- Experienced working in a multicultural / international environment and the ability to work with people from different professional / technical backgrounds successfully.
- Organized with the ability to establish priorities, plan, coordinate, monitor, and pay attention to detail.
- Able to exercise good judgment and make decisions by applying technical expertise and tact to resolve issues.
- A demonstrated and experienced manager.
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
