Where You’ll Belong
The Electric Drive Software department at Volvo Cars is proud to be one of the most successful players within SW development for Electric Vehicles. We deliver system solutions and SW functionality for the inverters in our electrified vehicles. Our vision is to deliver the best and most innovative functions to the market and continuously evolve our Software Platform.

Do you have a passion for development of complex mechatronic systems within vehicle electrification, electronics, and embedded systems? Then the role as Machine Control SW Engineer in our team Motor Control is the place for you to prosper. We are a highly agile and fast-paced team that delivers state-of-the-art functionalities. You will utilize a variety of different SW used for the different parts during the development process as well as having the responsibility of all phases of the development; from design and implementation to vehicle testing and fine-tuning of the functionality.

We will challenge you and expect you to do the same to bring out the best from each one of us. At the same time, we will offer you a comfortable lifestyle, Work-life Balance is something that infuses Volvo Cars. What does it mean to you? Maybe it is to have a home-baked “fredagsfika” or the benefit of our family bond*, anyhow we will not make you disappointed in this area!

What You’ll Do
The team is developing the in-house Electric Motor Control Application from the bottom up, where the core functionality of the SW is to realize the requested electric machine torque in the most optimal way given the current operating conditions. Due to the SW being developed from the bottom up in an embedded environment it makes the scope of the team comparatively large as it is currently responsible for the entire chain of development: architectural structure, concept studies, development environment, functionality development, SW verification (unit test, MIL, SIL, HIL and rig/dyno), documentation and requirements review. In addition, the team is in a stage where it works closely with suppliers in order to be able to merge the SW.

You will use Simulink and code generation for application SW and direct C code for the lower-level code needed for the inverter drivers and communication. The way of working includes using Git and Gerrit with short iterations between implementation and feedback from the team.

You and Your Skills
You are a team player and natural initiator, with a positive attitude towards SCRUM/agile development. You commit to delivering the Team´s deliverables with high precision on quality and enjoy increasing your network.

You have at least a Bachelor of Science in Power Electronics, Electronics, Controls Theory, Signals & Systems. You will also need a couple of years’ experiences in electric machines and embedded software development. You are an expert in MATLAB Simulink for controls development, but you also possess experience in some of the below fields:

· Modern integrated development environments and debuggers
· Other programming languages such as python, C, C++
· Calibration activities in test rigs and vehicle
· AUTOSAR structured architecture, workflow and toolchains

In this role you will need to explain and understand complex solutions in English, so your language skills will be crucial as well as the fact that you have a B driver's license in order to be able to test our cars.
