About the role
As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a key role in building intelligent energy optimisation solutions for our customers’ homes. Through optimisation, we help our customers minimise costs and reduce emissions, directly impacting their contribution to a greener environment and helping to ease the weight of energy cost on their wallets.
Our work helps Aira’s products adapt to their surroundings, drawing on physical sensors and hardware to sense the world around, then learning the thermodynamics and physics of a customer's home through machine learning, optimisation, and simulation.

Key responsibilities include:
Drive the development of optimisation models, ranging from individual devices to entire homes and fleets of homes connected to the electricity grid.
Engage in the full lifecycle of machine learning projects, from initial concept and data collection through evaluation, deployment, and refinement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers and UX designers, to ensure we build the best solutions to meet our customers' needs and drive value.
We think you’ll enjoy this role if you have:
Mathematical Expertise: strong understanding of the mathematical foundations of machine learning and complex optimisation problems, with experience in techniques such as convex optimisation or reinforcement learning.
End-to-end Implementation: proven experience in leading machine learning or data science projects from start to finish.
Customer Focus: a strong motivation to create value for our customers, with curiosity to understand how our models can solve their problems.
Programming Skills: proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferred), R, or Java.
Additional plus if you have experience with the following:
Familiarity with specialised machine learning frameworks and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow/Keras.
Prior experience working with thermodynamics, physical systems, and/or energymodeling.
