Maintenance Mechanic

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The incumbent will perform competent level maintenance and repair work as a Maintenance Mechanic. Maintains structures and associated equipment of office buildings, residential quarters and other government-owned or leased buildings by performing: painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, refrigeration and air conditioning and other preventive maintenance and repair work. The incumbent will perform competent level work in the plumbing, electrical and general building trades.
The incumbent will receive oral instructions or work order concerning work to be done, and proceeds to accomplish the necessary maintenance, repair, or installation of equipment, wiring, piping, structures and equipment in accordance with established trade practices and methods, and working from blueprints or schematic drawings as necessary.
The incumbent will also direct the work of a contractor or other team members as assigned. The work will also involve driving a light or heavy truck to transport tools, equipment, and materials to the work site.
The employee will work independent in a team of six maintenance employees.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Completion of vocational school or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman skills, or equivalent experience in the trade of primary expertise is required.

2. Two years of journeyman experience is required plus one year of semi-skilled experience in other trade areas.

3. Level 3 (Limited Knowledge) Speaking/Reading English is required. Level 3 (Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading Swedish is required.
4. Must have competent knowledge of established trade practices and procedures in the plumbing, electric and general building trades.

5. Must be able to use all tools of the trades; must have local driver's license. Swedish B*** drivers license
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

This position is available to Swedish nationals or permanent legal residents as well as to American citizens with permanent residence permits in Sweden, under the terms of the Rockefeller amendment authorizing Embassies to hire Americans abroad for FSN positions, and Embassy American Family Members.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Applicants are selected for appointment on the basis of education, experience, and suitability for the position to be filled.

The selected applicant is subject to medical clearance and limited security investigation and clearance.
