Master Problem Solver – Subject Matter Expert Level II / Level III

Responsible for global execution of Master Problem Solving for the respective engineering discipline(s). These
activities will include:
● Leading and execute complex global teams across multiple disciplines as required for problem solving
activities on production development and production launched projects for customer, internal and
supplier identified issues.
● Lead the review and approval of 3L5W and 8D’s
o Support the chief engineers with Internal 3L5W/8D enterprise look across
o Support the chief engineers in the proper product / process change implementation
o Support the chief engineers in the proper supplier look across for supplier based 3L5W/8D
o Support the Problem Solving Lessons Learned Data Base
● Creating, aligning, leading Top 5 continuous improvement actions across the responsible engineering
disciplines.
● Creating and maintaining relevant internal problem solving training material
● Function as a “trainer” to” train the trainers” on problem solving methods
● For those engineers engaged in the “Blackbelt” path, support Green and Blackbelt project selection and
execution
● Identify and work with external suppliers (if required) for specific problem solving skills or analysis,
unique training, unique certification
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Execute problem solving at the highest levels of expertise for automotive system, software, hardware
products
● Execute the following problem solving responsibilities at an expert level with the ability to train the trainer
o I&CIM
o Rolling Top 5
o 3L5W
o 8D
o Is/Is Not
o FTA
o DOE (including BOB vs. WOW, Acellerated Life Testing, Multi Factorial, etc.)
o DRBFM
o DFSS
o DMAIC
o Shanin Red X (or equivalent)
o Master Black Belt (or equivalent)
● Support the chief engineer in the problem solving development of resources via creating training material,
training the trainers.
● Support the chief engineer in ensuring the employees have the necessary problem solving skill sets and are
effective practitioners.
● Maintain “self” capability and certifications as a Master Problem Solver.
● Coordinate problem solving activities with Purchasing, Supplier Development, Supplier Quality, etc. as
needed.
● Continuously improve Problem Solving Training
● Perform special assignments as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Demonstrated Expert in Automotive Electronics Development
o 15+ years in Automotive Electronics at the OEM or Tier 1 level
● Demonstrated Subject Mater Expert in Automotive Electronics Problem Solving
o 5+ years as a Master Black Belt (or equivalent)
o OR
o 5+ years as a Shanin Red X Master (or equivalent)
● Demonstrated Subject Mater Expert in the following problem solving methods / skills /tools
o I&CIM
o Rolling Top 5
o 3L5W
o 8D
o Is/Is Not
o FTA
o DOE (including BOB vs. WOW, Acellerated Life Testing, Multi Factorial, etc.)
o DRBFM
o DFSS
o DMAIC
● Master Problem Solving Software
o Above
o 5+ years in Electronic Software specific to ADAS / Camera, DIS, Telematics / Connectivity or
Passive Safety
o Experience with Model-Based design tools and methodologies
o Experience with embedded software development, software test, software process, methods
and tools
● Demonstrated ability to lead global multi-discipline cross-functional teams
● Self-motivated and results orientated, proactive with outstanding planning and follow up skills
● Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects/tasks
● Able to communicate and write effectively, resulting in a clear understanding of the issues
● Ability to lead effective communication internally as well as with Stoneridge customers and suppliers
● Achieves Results through Self and Others: Able to leverage the company’s scale. Willing to lead when
the situation calls for it and to encourage others to do so as well. Establishes clear goals and supporting
processes/metrics. Possesses a continuous improvement mindset, but is also able to drive discontinuous
change when required.
