Biotechnological companies develop products that have profound impact on human healthcare. More and more evaluations of such products have been made by computer aided numerical simulations, mainly by finite element method (FEM). Beside product modelling, these models involve modelling of parts or the whole human body.

The purpose of this study is to do an extensive benchmark of two FE softwares. This will be done on one FE model. Specifically, the model is about transferring two different loads on human body through a healthcare device. Important modelling issues are:

-Material models
-Element formulations
-Contact algorithms

If necessary, new modelling technique could be introduced in the modelling and/or observation of results. Computational times and extractions of aspiring results will be compared in order to verify evaluations.

Recommended qualifications:

-Interest in biotechnological solutions and numerical analyses with FEM.
-Master of Science studies in Mechanical Engineering / Civil Engineering / Applied Mathematics / Applied Biotechnology. The student's qualifications can preferably be complementary to each other.

Preferable but not essential:

-Practical experience and theoretical knowledge of Biotechnological solutions.
-Knowledge in FEM, Structural Mechanics and/or Applied Biomechanics.
