Arbetsbeskrivning
Master Thesis/ Bachelor Thesis – Automated High Temperature Sensor verification and characterization
A Snapshot of Your Day
Siemens Energy, Finpång, develops and manufactures gas turbines for power generation and operation of compressors and pumps. Siemens Energy is also a total contractor for distribution and transmission projects in Sweden, and provides total solutions in electrification, automation and digitalization for the process and basic industries.
The combustion process in a gas turbine is constantly being monitored by several sensors of various type. One of the most demanding measurements is to monitor the dynamic pressure close to the combustion. The sensor should output an electric signal proportional to the pressure fluctuations, ideally without influences by the high temperatures (~700°C).
All sensors are tested with an in-house-designed test rig. The sensor verification is done at room temperature. Higher demands for measurements position close to the combustion flame put new requirements to the verification method. Verification at elevated temperatures is needed to better understand the installation environment of the sensors.
How You’ll Make an Impact
* Understand the concept of dynamic pressure generation and piezoelectric sensor design (Literature study)
* Develop a heating concept that raise the sensor and pulsator temperature to at least 500°C. The process should have a good repeatability and being programmatically controlled.
* Find suitable parts, build a prototype, and evaluate the result.
* Develop new methods
* Contribute to a good workplace and strengthen us as a team
What You Bring
* Bachelor or master with technical profile
* Labview experience
* Knowledge in measurement techniques
* Curious mind
* Interest in test automation
