Master thesis: Communication module for low energy IOT Sensor Application

Master thesis: Communication module for low energy IOT Sensor Application

Arbetsbeskrivning

Project goal
The project aims at performing design, implementation of the radio interface, as well as the software backend of a low energy IoT sensor application.

Background and purpose
A low cost, low energy, solar cell powered, sensor system has been developed by RISE.  The sensor system has of today no means of communicating the measurements to a backend or web service. The intention is to add a radio interface to the sensor and by that enable wireless communication to the sensor node in order to send sensor data to a central storage place for analysis and presentation for users. The sensor system of today measures the level of CO2, however, it could be possible to measure other gases as well. It is also imaginable to use different types of sensors as well.

About the project
The thesis will start with the student(s) gaining an understanding, by literature studies, of the data communication needs and then select a suitable RF communication method from the different RF communication options available.  Furthermore, the student(s) will do a system design of the backend and frontend data analyses architecture as well as the user interface.

RISE will provide the student with the few of the sensor systems.  But in the architecture of the backend analysis system and user interface there must be possibilities to manage many sensors spread in e.g. every room in a school or hospital.

Requirements/knowledge
For this diploma work, the student(s) should have background knowledge in RF communication and/or implementation of a cloud-based data analyses backend and/or frontend.
