Master Thesis: Microstructural design and optimization for novel

Arbetsbeskrivning

Master Thesis: Microstructural design and optimization for novel nickel-based superalloys for advanced gas turbine applications.

A Snapshot of Your Day

Today, the market has demanded gas turbines to operate under extreme and robust conditions. This brings great challenges to the materials used, especially in the hot sections. Except for the excellent mechanical properties, a good combination of oxidation and corrosion resistance at high temperatures is also of significant importance. Thus, we at Siemens Energy have been dedicating to develop our own advanced alloys and implement to the engines, to provide better solutions for the energy market.

How You’ll Make an Impact
This master thesis is a part of the work which aims to optimize a few recently designed alloys by Siemens Energy in the microstructural level, in order to obtain decent precipitation and grain boundary characteristics for desired mechanical properties. The work will mainly include various heat treatment trials, microstructural characterization, and simple mechanical testing if needed.

What You Bring
* Master thesis student who has a material science and engineering background.
* Working both individually and in collaboration with different groups of alloys.
* Interested in alloy development for sustainable power generation.
* Having knowledge and experience with commonly used material characterization techniques, especially scanning electron microscope, is preferable.
* Enjoy working both theoretical and practical.
