Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you in the final phase of your studies and about to start your master thesis work? Do you want to join our journey in cutting edge technology? We are looking for two master thesis students in a project for a moisture sensor in a high-speed drying process during spring 2023, and you are welcome to apply today!
In an earlier Master Thesis, it has been successfully shown that it is possible to estimate the moisture content in a plank by applying a known amount of microwave energy and measure the temperature increase in the plank. This measurement method was proven on a plank not moving. However, in an industrial drying process the planks need to move with fast speed.
Your role as Master Thesis student
The aim for this new Master Thesis is to show how this measurement method can be applied in a fast moving process, creating a controlled microwave radiation pattern with an antenna and where the applied energy is controlled. The temperature measurement of the created hot spot needs to be measured during high speed and with high accuracy.
To our knowledge, there is no available system to measure high-level moisture content in a high-speed drying process.
The basis for thesis work is to develop an antenna, giving a known microwave pattern applied onto the planks, which are moving along a line at high speed. Best suitable type of antenna need to be defined with simulation of the microwave radiation field and corresponding energy pattern heating up the plank. The power pattern in each plank needs to be calculated. The temperature areas need to be measured and an algorithm developed giving an output for determination the moisture content. When using RF, the frequency used must fall into one of the ISM bands and for practical reason we suggest starting using 2.4-2.5 GHz.
Example of questions to be answered during the Master Thesis: What size of the transmitted pattern is needed? How will the size of the plank influence the result? Do we need to heat from both sides to cover thicker planks? How accurately can it control the process? How will the outside temperature effect the measuring result?
Who are you?
We believe that you are in the final phase of your master program in Electronic Design, Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering or similar, where Microwave theory and design, electromagnetic simulation, measurement technology, data analysis, microprocessor programming has been a significant part.
We also value your personal skills, both because we want an open and rich company culture and since we offer a high degree of freedom regarding this master thesis.
Does it sound interesting? Apply for a chance to become one of the two master thesis students for this task!
