Background
Volvo GTO in Skövde is producing components and heavy-duty diesel engines for several applications (Trucks, construction equipment, industrial engines, marine engines etc.). The main processes in Skövde are Foundry, Machining, Assembly and Logistics.
We are now facing a major transformation journey in terms of new products and processes as a part of our global company. We hope that you want to be part of and contribute to that journey.
Volvo GTO has a strategy to automate logistic operations eg transports to enable performance and safety.
During 2023 has a pilot project has been performed for delivering goods outdoor between facilities with autonomous vehicle, a pilot project for the vehicle itself was done but more knowledge is needed is to understand the key factors to success with outdoor autonomous transportations.
Purpose
The purpose of this thesis is to further evaluate and understand the prerequisites of the surroundings to enable outdoor autonomous transportations as well as concept for having driverless transportations including automatic loading and unloading of material.
Task
The task is to define key factors and identify gaps in our facilities for a future setup of outdoor autonomous transportations as well as concept for automatic loading and unloading of material in terms of focusing on the prerequisites of the roads, surroundings, manual traffic etc.
The thesis must cover the following:
Key factors to success with outdoor autonomous transportations including concept for automatic loading and unloading of material
Focusing not on the vehicle itself but on other prerequisites
Identify gaps in our facilities
Propose solutions to close the gaps
Propose concept for driverless transportation including automatic loading and unloading of material
Main location for the project group will be at Volvo GTO in Skövde.
