Master thesis: Efficient and Reliable High Power distribution within Electrical Driveline for Commercial Vehicles

Electromobility is changing the automotive world, and we are now looking for you who want to be part of this change happening in our industry. The Electromobility Distribution and Charging teams within Power Conversion are dedicated to providing world-class solutions for transferring energy from the grid to the vehicle and distributing energy from the battery to the electric drive system – delivering end customer value for Volvo business units. Not only will you be working with cool technical challenges – but also be part of an optimistic atmosphere where joy, knowledge-sharing, and openness are key characteristics. Join our exciting change journey today and contribute to reducing the CO2 emissions in our society.

Background to thesis

Increased environmental awareness has led to further electrification demands from society on commercial vehicles and offroad applications. Feasible solutions require very large amounts of battery energy storage capacity, while simultaneously requesting very high charging powers to allow shorter charging times. Therefore, higher current needs to be distributed in the electrical driveline and between its main components/functions.

Description of thesis work

In this master thesis you will be part of forming the future transportation industry by developing solutions for next generation of electrical drivelines for commercial vehicles. More specifically you will create new solutions for distribution of higher power in the electric driveline. Solutions will come from market analysis, competitor analysis, supplier discussion and not least your own creative mindset and recent learnings at university. You will visualize your solutions using CAD (CREO). You’ll be part of an existing team already working to develop next generation of charging and electrical distribution products but have your own scope within the team.
