Arbetsbeskrivning
The research institute Swerim provides applied research within mining engineering, process metallurgy and materials and manufacturing engineering, mainly for the mining, steel and metals industry. Swerim has 200 co-workers in two locations in Sweden - Luleå and Stockholm.
Overview
As a result of the climate change, partly due to increased levels of anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere, the steel industry is challenged to decrease their emissions. One of the solutions include a transition towards DRI and another involves implementation of carbon capture technologies. Therefore, this thesis work will focus on a DRI system with integrated carbon capture. The study will include system optimization and a techno-economic evaluation of carbon capture implemented in a DRI-process.
Goal
The aim of the thesis is to find the most cost- and energy efficient system. The purpose is also to investigate the possibility of reusing captured carbon dioxide in the process.
Further information
Swerim rewards the student with 50 000 SEK for an approved master thesis (30hp).
