Materials Engineering is a department organized within Special Processes Engineering at GKN Aerospace Engine Systems in Trollhättan. Our main task is to support the GKN AES organization with knowledge in materials engineering, specializing in titanium alloys, superalloys, additive manufacturing, mechanical testing and material data analysis.
We take part in commercial, military and space development projects as well as technology development programs for new materials and manufacturing methods. We also perform material testing in our mechanical test laboratory to build the GKN materials database.
Job description
As a materials engineer you will identify the need for material data in development projects with respect to requirements from authorities, airplane manufacturers, whole engine manufacturers and internal GKN functions. The role includes to define and manage material test programs regarding physical properties, strength, fatigue, manufacturing simulations and for advanced material modeling in close cooperation with our mechanical test laboratory and/or external test suppliers.
Your responsibilities also include:
• Distribute material data used for stress simulation, component life prediction and manufacturing simulation engineers
• Take part in developing new testing techniques and new methods for analyzing materials data
• Develop new and/or implement existing advanced materials
Your profile
• PhD, Technical licentiate or MSc in Materials Science, Solid Mechanics or Physics
• Good knowledge in Materials Science and statistical methods
• Experience from measuring material properties is preferred
• Experience in FEM calculations and/or fatigue analysis is preferred
• Experience in material modeling is preferred
• Ability to take on tasks and deliver results according to agreed plans and goals
• Good communication skills
