Mechanical Design Engineer

About the job
This role will offer you the chance to utilize your engineering skills to its full extent and contribute to the strategic and detailed development of our solutions.
Our client aims at becoming the market leading provider of wind propulsion solution to the shipping industry and thereby prevent contribution to climate change and other harmful emissions from shipping. The first installations are scheduled to be in operation on an ocean-going car carrier in 2025.
Our client is established as a 50/50 joint venture, owned by Alfa Laval and Wallenius but operated as an independent company. We are now building up the team, with highly skilled, motivated, and passionate people, that will form the core of this company.
Key responsibilities:
- Mechanical design of AlfaWall Oceanbird wing sail technology according to technical requirements as defined by customer needs, class rules and Oceanbird standards.
- Develop detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications, including 3D models/drawings, BOM, and instructions for manufacturing.
- Selection and sizing of machine components.
- Technical interface towards suppliers, manufacturers and other external and internal stakeholders.
- Support regulatory submissions including creation and management of technical documentation in PLM system.
- Contribute to designing our products according to highest level of performance and quality considering product cost, manufacturability, and time to market.
Competences:
- Experience of mechanical design and engineering of large structures, machine systems and/or components in metallic materials.
- You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- 3-5 years experience in similar roles.
- Strong skills in technical drafting, 2D and 3D CAD, preferable in CREO.
- Experience in using PLM-systems.
- Knowledge in manufacturing and installation methods and practices for metallic components.
- It will be meriting of you have worked in or closely related to the marine industry.
- You are self-going and self-motivated
- Strong team player, you thrive working together with other people and competences in reaching a common goal and contribute to sustainable shipping
