The European Spallation Source is hiring motivated and inspiring people from across the globe to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source. We are now looking to appoint a Mechanical Engineer for the Engineering & Integration Support (EIS) division to support Accelerator Beam Instrumentation and Vacuum teams.
The EIS division is the central engineering and technical division providing transversal support and services to the ESS project and organisation. The vacant position belongs to the Mechanical Engineering and Technology Section.
About the role:
As the successful candidate for the vacant Mechanical Engineer role you will:
• Design machine parts and components by means of 3D and 2D CAD software
• Participate directly in the system assembly and installation operations: You will perform activities and as the designated designer, will participate at work that can take place both in experimental underground areas and on surface assembly halls
• Generate and update conceptual, draft, detailed and manufacturing 2D/3D model drawings in CATIA
• Generate, maintain and update 2D drawings in CATIA environment and interact/archive them in CHESS (the ESS in-house CAD management software tool)
• Generate 2D and 3D files for simulations, analysis and proper design,
• Consolidate requirements in view of using them as basis for engineering studies, design and CAD modeling
• Able to assess responsibility of the so-called "design package" (dedicated design projects to be completed in a specified amount of time)
• Take responsibility for the design, evolution and support of hardware designs
• Document and present your work as appropriate
About you:
As a committed and interested Mechanical engineer we would expect you to have the following background:
• Higher Technical or University engineering degree on mechanical design engineering or other equivalent engineering degree
• Min 5 years of CATIA design experience
• Min 3 years of experience on design of vacuum components
• Minimum 5 years of CAD mechanical design engineering experience
• Technical competency on 3D & 2D technical drawing following ISO standards and GPS rules & norms for mechanical drawings for manufacturing also in accordance with the applicable and interfacing electrical regulations.
• Knowledge and specific examples of working experience of basic engineering in related disciplines (i.e. civil, electrical etc.).
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and its application to production drawings
The following skills and experience would be considered an asset:
• Experience and knowledge of technical documentation and configuration management
• Knowledge of ISO tolerancing will be considered as an asset
• Relevant experience in designing mechanical apparatuses fulfilling specific needs for particle accelerators and related instruments
• Design in particular vacuum systems, accelerator systems and other related systems
It is required to have self-motivation, organization, and excellent interpersonal skill to be able to work independently, to support the work to move forward and prioritize among tasks. You need to be a quick learner, be able to cope with intense work periods and be able to deliver quality results on time. Experience of working in an international environment is essential. Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period.
