Arbetsbeskrivning
The ILL is a fundamental research institute founded and financed by France, Germany and the United Kingdom. It is Europe's leading centre for research using neutrons and operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The ILL's Reactor Division is responsible for producing the neutrons feeding the instruments of research and for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. It currently has a vacancy for a:
Mechanical Engineer
Duties:
This is a post within the project group of the Reactor Division's mechanical service. You will initially be assigned to work on the seismic reinforcement of various reactor-related facilities (overhead crane, handling casks, Level C crane, etc.). You will have technical responsibility for the modifications to be carried out on these facilities with a view to their seismic reinforcement, from the design phase to their implementation on site. You will prepare the specifications for the studies and on-site production and installation; you will assess the technical options proposed, and organise the planning and monitoring of the different projects. At a later stage you will be assigned to new projects (creation of new facilities or modification of existing).
Specifically, your duties will involve:
- Studying the technical options available for the modifications to be made to existing equipment, or design of new equipment
- Drawing up specifications for the design and procurement of the equipment to be modified/created and follow up the studies
- Monitoring production operations under quality assurance standards (calls for tender, supplier monitoring, manufacturing control and validation, non-conformance analyses, acceptance, etc.)
- Playing an active role in the installation of the equipment (drawing up of procedures for assembly, testing, qualification and bringing into service)
- Monitoring the work of the technicians during the installation or repair operations
- Monitoring project progress in terms of safety, quality, costs and timelines
- Keeping up-to-date with technological and regulatory developments
You will eventually work on other important reactor projects (creation of new installations, seismic reinforcement of exiting structures, etc.).
This post requires a rapid capacity to work autonomously.
Qualifications and experience:
- You have a Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) in mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of mechanical design (structures, SKID etc.) and finite element analysis.
- Capacity to work in "project mode" and good familiarity with project management tools (Gantt charts, etc.).
- Very good writing skills (technical procedures and specifications, etc.).
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French if necessary (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
Notes:
Grenoble-based.
This post is a permanent position.
You must be ready to be called into action in the event of a crisis.
Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required (category B).
Benefits:
Generous company benefits (expatriation allowance), relocation assistance and language courses may be offered (for more information, please consult our employment conditions).
