Mechanical Maintenance Technician

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The Reactor Division, whose role is to produce the neutrons needed to supply the ILL's scientific instruments, is responsible for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Duties:
Within the Fluids group, which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the reactor's fluids systems and the associated mechanical equipment, as well as the chemical analyses required for reactor operation and the management of welding operations, you will work directly with another technician. You will be responsible for the cooling and pump systems and the reactor pool demineralised water systems, which are made up of filtration and purification systems.

Your duties will involve:
. operating, maintaining and repairing the above equipment
. monitoring work carried out by subcontractors
. performing statutory periodic tests and inspections
. drafting procedures, technical specifications, PID, reports, etc.
. assisting on an occasional basis with the operation of the other equipment under the group's responsibility.

Qualifications and experience:
. Level 4 qualification (NVQ, BTEC HND or equivalent) in mechanical, thermal or maintenance engineering.
. Experience in pump system maintenance and an ability to perform simple fluid mechanics calculations are required.
. Experience of working within a Quality Regulatory Framework.
. You are able to work independently or as part of a team, have a strong service-oriented attitude and are able to take initiative while complying with regulatory requirements.
. You have excellent analytical and writing skills (procedures, specifications, etc.).

Language skills:
The position requires knowledge of French, as an international research centre, you must be able to communicate in English. Knowledge of German is an advantage.
