The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The ILL's Reactor Division, whose role is to produce the neutrons needed to supply the ILL's scientific instruments, is responsible for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Duties:
You will join the Fluids group, which is responsible for the maintenance of the reactor's fluids systems and the associated mechanical equipment, as well as the chemical analyses required for reactor operation and the management of welding operations. You will work directly with another technician and will be responsible for various technical systems (hydraulics, ventilation, air conditioning, gas, etc.).
In liaison with the head of the Fluids group, your duties will involve:
- operating, maintaining and repairing these technical systems
- performing statutory periodic tests and inspections
- monitoring pressure equipment (inspections and tests)
- monitoring work carried out by subcontractors
- designing and implementing modifications/improvements to the systems
- drafting procedures, technical specifications, instrumentation diagrams (PID), reports, etc. in complaince with the ILL's Integrated Management System
- providing technical assistance on an occasional basis to other members of the group.
Qualifications and experience:
- Level 5 qualification (HND or equivalent) in mechanical, thermal or maintenance engineering, together with at least 5 years' professional experience in the maintenance of refrigeration systems or air-conditioning equipment
- An ability to perform simple fluid mechanics calculations (pressure loss, heat balance, operating point, etc.)
- Experience of working within a quality assurance framework
- Good analytical and writing skills (procedures, specifications, etc.).
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. A sound knowledge of French is required. Knowledge of English and/or German would be an advantage.
