The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a mechanical technician.
Description of directorate/division
Detector group is responsible for neutron detectors on ESS instruments. We are currently prototyping detector technologies, building prototypes from a collection of mechanical, electrical and chemical components, many of which are designed and manufactured by us. To support these activities we run a mechanical workshop where we produce, modify and assemble new and existing parts.
Description of main responsibilities
Sourcing and manufacturing mechanical and other components. General workshop duties.
Qualifications
Technical competencies
• Proven mechanical dexterity, able to handle complex precision assembly work.
• Practical experience of one or more types machining.
• Basic numeracy as required performing loading/cutting calculations.
• Basic computer literacy (experience with CAD an advantage)
• A good safety record, ideally with formal safety training applicable to workshop activities.
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
Start date
The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
