You will be part of the Robotics team at ABB Research in Västerås, Sweden. In our role as ABB Research, we ensure ABB's technology competitiveness now and in future.
In the Robotics team we focus on mechatronics concepts, design and robot intelligence in both industrial and service robot segments. The research activities are usually formulated as technology pre-study and technology development projects. We work closely with ABB's Robotics business to ensure our research will bring unique value for ABB business. At the same time, we have close collaboration with academic world to bridge the academic and industrial research.
In this team, one of our historical highlights is the creation and development of the dual-arm YuMi robot concept and the mobile YuMi concept.
This position reports to Robotics and Mechatronics Team Manager.
Your responsibilities
You will be part of creating new technologies for robotics, mechatronics and integrating robotic systems. This includes mechatronics design, manufacturing and assembly of prototypes and integrating them into existing systems.
You will be mainly working in the WARA Robotics project, contributing and supporting AI and ML researchers from Sweden and building the robotics research lab for Industry 4.0.
Your work will include working with ABB industrial robots, prototypes and collaborative robots. You will also be working with sensors, conveyors and other mechatronics devices.
Developing prototypes is one key aspect of research. You will be working with hands-on manufacturing of prototypes, mechanical, electrical and to some extend software/embedded.
Verification, validation and documentation will be required due to the high visibility of WARA Robotics. You will be providing technical reports and documentation for researchers and engineers as end users.
Working in an agile and international team, you are expected to be able to work both independently and in teams at a fast pace Environment.
Your background
MSc or PhD degree in the subjects of Mechatronics/Robotics or similar engineering field.
Good knowledge or demonstrated experience in the fields of mechanical and electronics design.
Hands-on experience in working with the development of prototypes.
Knowledge of ABB RAPID/RobotStudio and experience with robot commissioning is considered a merit.
Experience working with Linux and/or ROS is considered a merit.
Experience working with SolidWorks is considered a merit.
Experience working with Altium or KiCAD is considered a merit.
Fluent in English, written and spoken alike.
