Modis Life Science is seeking a Senior Medical Advisor Director for an assignment at AstraZeneca in Södertälje. The assignment starts in september with chances of prolonging. Selection takes place continuously.
Field based Medical Advisor for Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic Disease
AstraZeneca has been driving cardiovascular innovation for more than 100 years. As we aim to break through conventional thinking by following what the science is telling us, we will:
• continue to build our CV and diabetes portfolio to help a broader range of patients
• focus on investigating the impact of treatment options on reducing CV events and death in a broad range of high-risk patients, beyond acute coronary syndromes
• shift the treatment paradigm of Type 2 diabetes to early combination therapy and accelerate achievement of treatment goals
• develop new therapies for anaemia in people with CKD.
The field based Medical Advisor for Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic Disease is a field-based medical affairs professional with solid scientific and therapeutic-area understanding and knowledge in CVRM such as diabetes, heart failure, ischemic heart disease and chronic kidney disease. Most often, the responsibilities are national, but Nordic tasks may be within the responsibility of the Medical Advisor as well. The Medical Advisor is responsible for executing medical activity plans for AstraZeneca´s marketed products and for compounds in development. The Medical Advisor translates scientific knowledge into strategies and tactics that support business success and leverages valuable insights from external environment to enhance decision making. The Medical Advisor should demonstrate collaborative cross-functional working relationships with internal stakeholders.
Medical Advisors engage in in-depth medical and scientific product or disease area discussions, and presentations in a non-promotional scientific context. The Medical Advisor participates in local cross-functional team based on need. The current focus of the role will be in diabetes in Sweden.
Scientific Leadership & Engagement:
• Demonstrate deep connectivity to clinical practice/healthcare delivery
• Engage Key External Experts, Health Care Professionals and other external stakeholders by proactively providing on-label scientific updates and information on AZ disease areas and marketed products as part of non-promotional scientific exchange
• Communicate with impact by i) translating complex science into compelling easily understood impactful messages for external stakeholders and internal stakeholders ii) modifying own style to deliver communications that are catered to the interests of external stakeholders and internal stakeholders when needed/appropriate
• Respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved AZ products or unapproved use of approved products. Present such information in an objective, scientifically balanced and substantiated manner
• Participate as scientific speaker at external meetings consistent with AstraZeneca standards
• Organize and lead scientific exchange meetings
• Perform activities in line with Medical Activity Plan, related budget and KPIs
Insight gathering and translation into actionable strategies:
• Organize and lead advisory boards
• Perform profiling/disease insight visits with external stakeholders to gain understanding of their involvement in a disease area, including therapeutic options, treatments and classes used, medical gaps, external stakeholder needs or the needs of patients
• Conduct preceptorship in line with the Medical Activity Plan and IDP
Stakeholder Engagement:
• Develop and implement a KEE engagement plan in line with the medical strategy and Medical Activity Plan
• Proactively identify KEEs with high levels of scientific expertise in local treatment practice to collaborate on activities consistent with the local Medical Activity Plan
• Build AZ relationships with key external stakeholders consistent with Medical Activity Plan.
Clinical Development:
• Collaborate with Site Management & Monitoring to identify pre-clinical, clinical and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with Medical Activity Plan
• Provide information to investigator/potential investigators on the existence of Externally Sponsored Research and Open Innovation programs
• As appropriate and based on need, be the Medical Affairs point of contact for ESR investigators
• Collaborate with SM&M around working with KEEs/HCPs in scientific and clinical trial activities that help support study recruitment, development and understanding of the compound under investigation
Scientific Matter Expertise:
• Member of local cross-functional team, based on need
• As appropriate, share and discuss KEE engagement plan in national cross-functional team
• Provide understanding of clinical practice trends and actionable (strategic) information or insight that supports the local product/compound strategy
• Based on need for trainers and national input, support Senior Medical Advisor in conducting Nordic AZ staff training on clinical data and trends in clinical practice within TA
• Based on need, participate in national Q&A sessions following Nordic trainings
• Provide relevant and timely feedback on KEE/HCP interactions using available resources
• Based on need for national input, support Medical Affairs Manager and Senior Medical Advisor on national clinical practice or national data for e.g. reimbursement dossier or other market access purposes
• Share activity insights that impact medical strategy with Medical Team Lead and Senior Medical Advisor as agreed
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
• Preferably Master´s Degree in life sciences or a related
• Customer-facing
• Pro-active mindset with respect to engaging external stakeholders
• Experience working in cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content and context to a variety of audiences
• Established project management ability
• Excellent presentation skills
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent knowledge of English language and fluent in at least one of the Nordic languages
• Excellent understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, health care systems and payer structures in the Nordic countries
• Ability to travel
• Driver´s license required
