We are now recruiting an experienced membrane protein scientist for an assignment at Cell Protein and Structural Science, AstraZeneca, Mölndal. Preferred starting date is 1 January 2011 (or earlier if possible) and duration of the positions is 18 months. The Cell, Protein and Structural Science (CPSS) department in Mölndal, Sweden, is a part of the global discovery organization of AstraZeneca. CPSS delivers cells and proteins for assays and screening, provides information on protein-ligand interactions and drives the exploitation of structural information in drug discovery projects. The department has 60 scientists working within a multidisciplinary setting. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help develop novel processing platforms for the production of membrane protein targets. As a member of the department you will be expected to contribute to the scientific and technical development within the team. We are looking for a senior research scientist with a Ph. D. in biochemistry or equivalent experience. The position requires solid background in membrane protein biology, with at least 4 years of research experience gained either in an academic or industrial setting. Experience in the fields of molecular biology and recombinant membrane protein expression in a variety of expression systems is essential. The candidate should also have experience with functional analysis and characterization of membrane proteins, particularly fluorescence size exclusion chromatography coupled with other biophysical techniques. Experience of working within a large organization across a multidisciplinary setting will be viewed favourably. The candidate needs to have demonstrated the ability to drive membrane protein projects to completion and have critical problem solving skills. Candidates should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem solving attitude. Good organisational skills are required and you should be comfortable in presenting your results. Excellent english is required, both spoken and in writing.
