The successful candidate will be recruited as PhD Student at the division of Energy technology to work in the Mistra Carbon Exit research program. As new PhD student you will join a team of senior researchers, postdocs and PhD students dedicated to research aimed at evaluating and proposing robust pathways towards sustainable energy and material systems. The research group has developed modeling tools and databases which provide a unique opportunity to describe and analyze different development paths for all or part of the Nordic and European energy and material systems.

Information about the research
The position on offer has the aim to assess and investigate how the supply chains of the buildings and construction sector can be transformed to comply with the Swedish target of net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the year 2045. The work includes further methodology development of models and scenario analysis tools for understanding and quantifying the options available to mitigate GHG emissions from the building and construction sector. The aim is to develop tools which can enable stakeholders to identify the effects of policies and actions aimed at reducing emissions from the building and construction sector.

The overarching aim of Mistra Carbon Exit is to develop societal pathways for the transformative change of the supply chains of buildings, transportation infrastructure and transportation - from input and raw materials, over primary and secondary activities, to final products and services –to fulfil the Swedish target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

The Mistra Carbon Exit consortium represent a broad interdisciplinary capacity, involving several universities and research institutes in Sweden and abroad as well as relevant stakeholders in industry and public agencies.

With supervision and support from senior researchers at the division of Energy technology at Chalmers and at IVL Swedish Environmental Institute, and with ample access to collaboration and support from the wider Mistra Carbon Exit consortium, this PhD-candidate position offers a unique opportunity to pursue doctoral studies and develop research skills in the field of Energy and materials systems analysis.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. You are also expected to take active part and in building and maintaining collaborative links with relevant members of the research team and stakeholders in the Mistra Carbon Exit consortium

The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours. You are expected to write a licentiate thesis within 2-3 years and defend your doctoral thesis within 4-5 years.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education (ECTS) credits in Environmental science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent. Excellent writing and communication skills in English is required. Similarly, excellent writing and communication skills in Swedish is meritorious.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
