You will join the R&D team at ABB Metallurgy Center of Excellence in Västerås. ABB Metallurgy sells, develops and manufactures electromagnetic stirrers and brakes for the metals industry. Within this area, it is of utmost importance to stay ahead of the competition and to develop new solutions and attract customers by technological leadership and design advantages. ABB maintains a no. 1 position in the market, partly by conducting advanced simulations of magnetic fields, molten metal flows and thermal phenomena, and is hence able to provide a leading edge to the products delivered. We have a simulation history with experience spanning over several decades in the organization. The main part of our organization is based in Västerås, with a market that is worldwide.
In the R&D and Simulations Group at ABB Metallurgy, existing calculation tools and newly developed multi-physics tools are employed frequently to address the benefits of using electromagnetic actuation in improving the customer processes within different steps of metal making, e.g. melting and casting. These models are continuously developed and used in actual customer projects to make sure sufficient performance is met, and that demands on process improvements can be guaranteed. The role is reporting to Engineering Manager.
We are right now looking for the right person to strengthen our dedicated team.
Your responsibilities
Mathematical modelling of physical processes.
Development of algorithms in Matlab / Simulink.
Further development of calculation tools incl. programming and mathematical modelling.
Control system design.
Electromagnetic and temperature modeling and simulation.
Designing and analysis of electromagnetic stirrers.
Support sales and customer in technical issues.
Contributing to publications and participation in technical conferences.
Your background
Master of Science or PhD degree in a relevant field.
Preferably 5 years of experience in mathematical modelling.
Good knowledge and experience in Matlab / Simulink.
Programming skills in e.g. C/C++, Python, Fortran or similar.
Skills in CFD simulation and pre/post-processing tools e.g. ANSYS Fluent, CFX, Tecplot, ANSA or Opera is meriting.
You express yourself well verbally and in writing in English and preferably in Swedish.
As a person you are analytical, careful and structured. You work proactively with focus on deliver within deadlines and with a high level of quality. The position requires that you have a natural willingness and ability to cooperate with others in order to reach common goals. You are creative and seek solutions to every challenge.
As our business is global the position includes some international travel.
