The Technical Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Main Control Room Shift Leader in the Operations Section.

Description of Section
The Operations section is responsible for organising work in, and providing adequately trained staff for the ESS Main Control Room. The scope of work is controlling, monitoring and operating the Neutron Source and related Technical infrastructure. 

Description of main responsibilities
During Machine Development and Commissioning shifts, the work tasks will be focused on working together with the study leader or systems testing leader, to ensure that the studies/tests can take place while ensuring the safety of the operation. To engage and continuously work with technical systems groups and contribute to the development of the operations instructions, procedures and training is a priority.
Inline with the progress of the project the main task is to perform scheduled shift work in ESS Main Control Room. This entails a number of responsibility areas including:


• Ensure a safe operation of the ESS neutron source and technical infrastructure.
• Ensure that the logbook for the shift is kept according to the log-book keeping practices.
• Ensure that the neutron source runs inside the operations envelope.
• Authorise changes in the beam mode and destination inside the current operations envelope.
• Be the point of contact for questions concerning safety (radiological or conventional) when on shift.
• Act as an Emergency Team Lead (assigned in later stages of operation).
• Issue keys to the PSS controlled areas and monitor the placement of the keys.
• Supervise and guide the work of the operators.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role the candidate should have:


• A technical degree (bachelor or higher) in physics, engineering or computer sciences.
• Basic knowledge of particle accelerator and support infrastructure systems.
• At least few years of experience as shift leader/similar in control room.
• Good written and oral communication skills in English
• Organised, with high sense of responsibility and good judgement
• Ability to establish good relationships with different stakeholders

Experience of working in an international environment is an advantage.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period

 The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
