Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Job Description
Introduction
The Communication Systems (CS) Group oversees CERN's network and telephony infrastructure. The wired and wireless networking infrastructure comprises several high-performance networks supplying communication services to a very large customer base (more than 50,000 connected systems), coupled with many very high-speed international links making use of state-of-the-art technologies. The group also manages a substantial softphone and mobile phone infrastructure. The whole infrastructure is supported and operated by a complex system of applications, the majority of which are developed by the group itself.
Functions
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced work supervisor to oversee the deployment of our IT cabling infrastructure and drive the implementation of communication infrastructure renovations. As a technician in the Communications Systems Group within the Information Technology Department, you will be responsible for ensuring that cabling projects are executed seamlessly and in line with CERN standards. Your role will be to:
Interpret users' needs, propose suitable solutions and follow-up the implementation of these solutions,
Prepare and then implement the renovation of the communication infrastructures for HL-LHC,
Participate in the future renovation of CERN's campus Wi-Fi network,
Schedule and supervise subcontracted cabling work and ensure compliance with administrative and safety procedures,
Log the solutions implemented in the Group's database systems and take part in the drafting of operational procedures,
Maintain hardware devices including the testing of possibly faulty units and their return to the manufacturer,
Provide third-line support for communications problems,
Carry out regular monitoring and inspections, reporting regularly on the quality and progress of the work performed by contractors, addressing any non-conformities, and conducting the final acceptance.
If you thrive in a hands-on role, guiding sub-contractors, and ensuring top-notch project execution, we want to hear from you!
