The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The Reactor Division, whose role is to produce the neutrons needed to supply the ILL's scientific instruments, is responsible for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. Nuclear Operations and Coordination Technician
Duties:
You will join the Quality Assurance Coordination Office (known as the BCAQ - Bureau de coordination et d'assurance qualité, which is part of the ILL's Reactor Operations Service. Reporting to the Head of the Reactor Operations Service, your main duties will be to:
. Assist with the design and implementation of modifications aimed at improving reactor operating conditions
. Assist with or carry out reactor operating activities with a constant focus on nuclear and conventional safety and in compliance with the relevant regulations and procedures
. Participate in the implementation and monitoring of indicators (equipment availability, failures, defects, weak signals) and propose solutions to optimise equipment operation
. Prepare and conduct tests of the reactor installations
. Draft and update operating procedures and instructions
. Verify operating documentation, perform the technical inspection during periodic testing, and draw up anomaly reports
. Participate in the planning of maintenance work taking into account the operating and safety constraints of the installations (coordination of maintenance work and multidisciplinary technical projects)
. Analyse the impact of requests for work on the operation and installation of equipment
. Communicate the results of your analyses and suggestions for improvement to your line manager on a regular basis.
As part of your duties, you will be required to stand in for members of the shift teams, who work on a rota basis in 2 x 12-hours shifts. This will involve operating and monitoring the various installations.
Qualifications and experience:
. You have a Level 4/5 qualification (e.g. BTEC HNC/HND or equivalent) in a relevant field such as industrial engineering and maintenance, mechanical and thermal engineering, or mechanical and production engineering, with at least two to three years' experience in an industrial setting.
. Operating experience in a high-risk industrial environment would be an advantage.
. You have good writing and reporting skills.
. You have a methodical and meticulous approach to your duties and are able to work independently and take initiative while complying with regulatory requirements.
. You are also an excellent team player with a strong service-oriented attitude.
. A diplomatic and flexible attitude, sound judgement and the ability to work under stress would also be assets for this position.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and French. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
