The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) group within the Environment, Safety & Health Division at the European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Occupational Health Safety (OHS) Engineer / Technician.
Description of division / group
The Environment, Safety & Health (ESH) Division, reporting to the Associate Director of ESH&Q supports, monitors and assures the implementation of ESS policies, rules, processes, objectives as well as best practices at all levels of the organization in ESH matters. Within the ESH division, the OHS group is responsible for issues and questions related to OHS aspects for design, installation and commissioning as well as the future operation of the facility.
Description of the position
Today, the OHS group consist of 6 employees. The group is working with those who are both designing the future facility as well as with those installing and commissioning the ESS machine (accelerator and target), instruments and technical infrastructure. Within the group there are currently OHS generalists as well as specialists in fire protection & control and chemical safety.
The position includes the following task and responsibilities:
• To support the Building Area Managers during installation and commissioning, including advising on complex risk assessments, attending safety rounds and support in investigating incidents.
• To prepare and implement rules and guidelines for the OHS area of the ESS management system and work with safety training to develop and lead appropriate training courses.
• To support the ESS line organisation by providing occupational health and safety advice to meet legislative requirements and ensure best practice.
• To participate in the implementation of a healthy safety culture at ESS.
The position may require work outside normal working hours to support the ESS facility.
Qualifications
To be a successful candidate:
• You should have a degree or equivalent in an engineering or science discipline;
• You are an enthusiastic safety professional with a practical approach to health and safety issues;
• You should have greater than 10 years’ experience as a health and safety professional;
• A recognized health and safety qualification would be an advantage;
• Experience from working in a high hazard industry would be an advantage;
• You should be familiar with European health and safety legislation and knowledge of relevant Swedish legislation would be an advantage;
• Fluent oral and written English skills is required. Swedish would be an advantage.
You have a well-developed ability to listen, consult others and to communicate proactively with a high level of integrity. We are a developing organisation and so you need to be able to adapt well to change and uncertainty. You need to be able to come up with appropriate solutions and be able to take initiative and implement actions

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period, the position is to be filled as soon as possible. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
