Who we are?
The first thing you will notice on a car is the exterior with its distinctive lighting. Exterior lighting is a key communication point for Volvo Cars towards the customers and this will increase even further in the future due to the rapid development of new advanced technologies. At Exterior Lighting, you are part of a global cross functional development team with the task to develop and launch Volvo Car Groups upcoming car projects. We are now strengthening our team with an optical engineer and You will be a key person to develop world class lighting concepts and optical elements in close cooperation with Design department and engineering.
What you will do
You will work with our technical experts in a cross functional team with highly dedicated members. Some of your main responsibilities will be to Define and calculate complex optical systems for lighting functions, e. g. lenses or light guide components for automotive exterior lighting applications considering requirements as well as legal, safety, economic and production-related framework condition. You will be the lead person for optic design and development activities in the concept phase.
• Develop lighting concepts and optical elements
• Define and calculate complex optical systems for lighting functions, e. g. lenses or light guide components for Rear Lamps interior applications considering requirements as well as legal, safety, economic and production-related framework condition
• Analyze, evaluate and optimize the lighting technology systems according to the results of calculations and prototype measurements
• Lead optic design and development activities, and support project team activities
• Research and benchmark cutting-edge technologies for Vehicle Exterior Lighting Systems
• Conduct high level analysis of Physically measured lighting data
• Analyzing, clarifying, and defining the lighting requirements
You and your skills
We are looking for you who has a Bachelor or higher Degree in Engineering / Optics / Physics, preferably with a Master of Science in Engineering Physics / Optics.
You have more than 5 years’ automotive optic design experience and are proficient with non-sequential optical design software such as LucidShape, SPEOS and engineering tools as Dassault Systèmes Catia V5-V6 and Siemens Teamcenter.
You are also proficient in designing geometric optical elements for automotive exterior applications as well as evaluation of color and brightness.
We believe you have strong communication skills and that you have documented knowledge in Geometrical Optics. Being fluent in English both written and spoken is important.
Furthermore, you have an open minded, positive attitude and like to be proactive, you possess the courage to try new ways of doing things, take initiative and lead change. You are eager to learn and think outside of the box with a passion for innovation and driving efficient optical design.
