Job description:
As an Oracle DBA your focus will be on database administration, but you will also be involved in evaluating and introducing new Oracle technologies in our solution. Apart from production and certification systems (provided to customers, regulators, and external game developers) you will also help out with administrating development and test system databases.
TruServ is a server-based gaming system, hence all gaming and monetary transactions performed on the gaming terminals are acknowledged and stored by the central system before they are presented to the player on the terminal. The database solution consists of a frontend database handling the transaction-intensive gaming activities and a backend database providing system management, reporting, and integrations with external systems.
High availability is critical due to 24/7 gaming and integrations with regulatory systems that at any time can request services and expects response within regulated intervals. Short response times are also crucial in order to provide a state-of-the-art gaming experience to the players.
On top of that, production systems store transactional data online for several years due to audit-regulations and as a result the DB becomes relatively large. Older data also need to be available for restore into the online database in case of audit.
Our Oracle environment currently involves Oracle Enterprise 19C and later (with and without Multitenant) on Oracle Linux.
We utilize RAC, Active Data Guard, ASM, Partitioning, and RMAN. For monitoring and surveillance we currently use Toad and OP5 with scripts.
We are also looking at incorporating advanced security (AD integration, encryption), advanced compression and we just about to start using Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c.
DBA Tasks
– Installation, configuration and administration of Oracle environment
– Plan and execute major migrations and upgrades
– Design and implement the high availability solutions
– Design and implement disaster and recovery solutions
– Design and implement security solutions
– Prepare and Maintain Standard Operating Procedure for all activities
– Design and implement monitoring solutions.
– Periodic database instance performance review and tuning recommendation
– Proactive database analysis and suggestion to development team.
– Tuning PL/SQL and SQL queries
– Work with development teams when new Oracle technologies are evaluated and incorporated, e.g. Transparent Application Failover and Transparent Application Continuity.
– Act as a mentor to DB developers and integrators with limited DBA knowledge.
– Provide 2nd line support to our 24x7 on-call support organisation.
– Coordinate and work with Oracle for resolution on major incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Hands-on experience of performing the tasks mentioned above in combination with the technologies of our database solution as described above.
As long as you are eager and willing to learn new areas it is fine if there are some specific areas that you are not as experienced within.
